HMRC Reporting:✅ Verifying your ID and Tax Information

🔔 Starting 31st January, JustPark will be required to report all earnings to HMRC.

This is in compliance with new laws for online marketplaces, like JustPark.

This process does not change your right to earn up to £1,000 tax-free each year or your tax obligations if you earn more than this. It simply ensures we report income correctly to HMRC.

For more information refer to the HMRC Guidance.

🎯 What’s the purpose of HMRC reporting?

The aim is to ensure transparency about business sellers on online marketplaces. While most JustPark space owners aren’t businesses, you’ll still need to submit your details via our online form to meet the legal requirements.

💸 Will this impact the amount of tax I pay?

❌ JustPark reporting your earnings won't change the amount of tax you pay, as this is the sellers responsibility to declare. For other tax queries, we recommend contacting HMRC directly.

📝 The guidelines say I'm exempt

Under HMRC’s reporting rules, platforms are not required to report sellers who earn less than €2,000 (approximately £1,700) and have fewer than 30 sales of goods in a year.
However, this exemption applies only to the sale of goods.

It does not apply to:

  • the provision of services

  • the rental of transport

  • the rental of immovable property (which includes parking spaces listed on JustPark)

Because JustPark falls under the rental of immovable property category, this reporting exception does not apply to our platform or our space owners. This means we have to report anyone who has received at least one booking since 2024.

📋 Quick summary

  • ✅ You must complete both steps to continue hosting with JustPark.
  • 💰 This is for HMRC reporting — it’s not about paying extra tax.
  • 🔐 Your information is secure and encrypted.
  • 📨 The second step (ID check) will come from Mitek on behalf of JustPark.
  • 🚫 If not completed, your payouts and hosting may be paused.

🪜 Step 1: Submit your Tax Information form

We first need you to provide some basic details in your JustPark account. This information allows us to verify your identity and prepare your account for HMRC reporting.

👤 Who needs to submit a form?

If you’ve had more than one booking, we’re required to declare your information to HMRC.

👉 Open your Tax Information form

When completing the form, please provide:

  • 📝 Full legal name (as it appears on your ID)
  • 🎂 Date of birth
  • 🌍 Country of residence
  • 🏠 Residential address
  • 🔢 Tax Identification Number — for UK residents this is your National Insurance number
💡 Don’t have a National Insurance number?
You can apply for one on the official HMRC website here .

🪪 Step 2: Complete your ID Verification (via Mitek)

Once you’ve submitted your Tax Information form, please allow up to five business days to receive your secure verification email and/or SMS from Mitek (on behalf of JustPark)

The request should look something like this but may vary depending on your device layout and settings:

This step confirms your details match your legal identity — it’s a requirement for all UK digital platforms.

🔐 Who is Mitek?

Mitek is a trusted global provider of identity verification, authentication, biometrics, and fraud detection. Their solutions are used by leading banks and enterprises worldwide to ensure safe, secure, and fast verification. Learn more here.

📩 What to expect:
Mitek will guide you through securely uploading your ID (such as a passport or driving licence). This process works best on a mobile phone so you can easily use your camera.

🔒 Your documents are encrypted, used only for HMRC compliance, and deleted once verification is complete.

If you run into any issues — for example, a name mismatch, document upload failure, or verification error — please click [HERE] Our team can help guide you through the process (but we can’t verify your ID on your behalf). ⚠️ Response times will be ~48 hrs

🏢 What if I’m a business or non-UK resident?

If your listing is managed on behalf of a business, charity, or organisation, you can still complete the Tax form, just make sure you select the correct seller type. You won't receive a Mitek request but we will still be verifying your information.

🕒 When do I need to complete this by?

From receiving the Mitek request, you will have 7 days to complete this before it expires. If your request has expired, or you're having trouble completing this, please contact us  [HERE].

🚫  I don't want to do it!

We totally understand that this feels like extra work, especially when you may already do your own self-assessment, but it really is a legal obligation for platforms like us. We’re not doing this to be difficult- all the information we collect is to satisfy HMRC’s reporting rules.

⚠️ What happens if I don’t complete both steps?

Unfortunately, if your details aren’t verified, we’ll need to pause your account. This may include:

  • 🚫 Withholding payouts
  • 🚫 Restricting withdrawals
  • 🚫 Suspending hosting on the JustPark platform

📣 Need help?
