Northern Ireland - I've been overcharged

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Northern Ireland parking โ€” why you may see a higher pending amount

If you parked in Northern Ireland, you may see a higher amount on your bank statement than expected. In most cases this is a pre-authorisation hold โ€” a temporary amount reserved by your bank, not your final charge. However, we are currently aware of an issue affecting a small number of drivers. Please read on.

โš ๏ธ Known issue โ€” some drivers are being incorrectly charged

Due to a technical fault with our payment processor, some drivers parking on Start/Stop listings in Northern Ireland are being charged both the parking fee and the pre-authorised amount, rather than the parking fee alone.

We are treating this as a priority and are working with our payment processor to resolve it. You do not need to contact us โ€” if you have been overcharged, we will refund the difference to you automatically once the issue is resolved.

๐Ÿงพ How pre-authorisation works

  • When you tap Start in the JustPark app, we ask your bank to place a temporary hold to confirm your card can be charged later.
  • This hold equals the maximum parking fee for that location from your start time (it is not a full day if you arrive late in the day).
  • When you slide to Stop, we calculate your actual time used and only that amount is charged.

๐Ÿฆ When the hold is released

  • We instruct your bank to release the hold immediately after you end your session.
  • Your bank then releases the remaining funds. Most banks take 3โ€“5 working days, but some can be quicker or a little slower.

Good to know

  • JustPark only receives the final parking charge after you end the session.
  • The held amount never leaves your account; it's just temporarily unavailable until the session ends.
  • The final charge is deducted from the hold; the remainder is released by your bank.

๐Ÿ” Tips to check what you're seeing

  • In your banking app, a hold often shows as "pending" or "pre-authorisation" rather than a posted transaction.
  • Compare with your JustPark receipt in My bookings to see the final amount and session times.
  • If both amounts appear as completed transactions (not pending), you are likely affected by the known issue above and will be refunded automatically.

๐Ÿ†˜ Still concerned?

If you believe you have been overcharged and it has been more than 7 days with no refund, please contact JustPark Support with your booking ID and a screenshot of the charges.

Please note: your bank cannot resolve this issue โ€” it originates with our payment processor and must be corrected on our side.

๐Ÿ“ Summary

  • The higher figure is usually a pre-authorisation hold, not an overcharge.
  • We charge only for actual time parked when you end the session.
  • A known payment processor issue is causing some drivers to be double-charged โ€” these will be refunded automatically.
  • If both amounts show as completed transactions after 7 days, contact us.
