Supermarket parking — how it works
How does supermarket parking work on JustPark?
JustPark has partnered with major supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Waitrose to let you park beyond the free period without needing a ticket or to speak to anyone. Your registration plate does the work.
When you complete your booking, your vehicle registration (VRM) is automatically sent to the car park's enforcement system. Cameras read your plate on entry and exit and match it against the list of registered bookings. If your VRM is on the list, no fine is issued — no ticket, no display, no barrier.
⏱️ The free period — what you're actually paying for
Every supermarket car park has a free stay — usually 2 or 3 hours. Your JustPark booking covers the time beyond that free period. You only pay for the extra time you need.
Example: Parking for 4 hours at a supermarket with a 2-hour free period? Book a 2-hour JustPark session starting when the free period ends.
🤔 Is my space guaranteed?
Not in the sense that there's a bay with your name on it — but in practice, supermarket parking is about as reliable as it gets.
Think of it like a flight or an Airbnb: you have a confirmed, paid booking that gives you the right to park. What you don't have is a physically reserved spot waiting for you. JustPark monitors capacity data and only sells a portion of the car park's spaces — the rest stay available for regular shoppers.
Supermarkets have very high turnover of parking spaces, and drivers without a JustPark booking are subject to the free period limit — so spaces free up constantly, even at busy times.
If you do arrive and the car park is genuinely full, contact us within 48 hours and we'll refund your booking.
🅿️ Which bay do I park in?
Typically any available standard bay — there's no reserved spot to find and nothing to display on your dashboard. Your registration is all the enforcement system needs.
That said, always check your booking confirmation for any specific access instructions. Some locations restrict JustPark bookings to a particular area of the car park (for example, upper deck only) — if yours does, you'll see this in your confirmation email.
Blue badge bays and parent & child bays are not covered by your JustPark booking — parking in these without the relevant permit or entitlement could result in a fine regardless of your booking.
🚗 Entry and exit
Most supermarket car parks allow one entry and one exit per booking. Once you leave, your session ends — even if time remains on your booking. If you think you might need to come and go (e.g. dropping off shopping and returning), check the listing before booking as most do not support this.
⏩ Extending your stay
Open the app and tap Extend Session in your active booking before your session ends. Note: most supermarket bookings do not allow extensions — if the option isn't visible, the car park doesn't permit it. In that case, make a new booking for the additional time.
✏️ Can I change my booking?
Most supermarket car parks do not allow changes to a booking once made — including VRM changes and time amendments. Your details are sent to the enforcement system automatically at the time of booking.
If you need to change something:
- Make a new booking with the correct details
- Once confirmed, let us know and we'll refund the original
Don't worry — make and model are not used for enforcement. Only your registration plate (VRM) is checked by cameras. If your VRM is correct, your booking is valid.
📅 Parking across multiple days
If you're parking on consecutive days (e.g. Monday to Wednesday), make a single booking that covers the full period.
If you need to park on non-consecutive days (e.g. Monday, Friday, and Sunday), use Multi-book at checkout — tap + Add additional booking to add up to 5 separate days in one transaction, paying just one transaction fee.
🏪 Supported supermarkets
JustPark currently supports bookings at car parks operated by Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Waitrose. Availability varies by location — search your supermarket in the app or on the website to see if bookings are available.
