How does JustPark work?
How does JustPark work?
JustPark lets you reserve a parking space in advance — at supermarkets, private driveways, hotel car parks, and more. When you book, your vehicle registration is sent to the car park automatically. That's how the system knows your car is supposed to be there — no ticket, no display, no barrier in many cases.
When you complete a booking, your vehicle registration (VRM) is automatically sent to the car park's enforcement system — this happens in the background as soon as your booking is confirmed. Cameras read your plate on entry and match it against the list of registered bookings. If your VRM is on the list, no fine is issued.
This is a direct data arrangement between JustPark and the enforcement company — it does not go through the car park's day-to-day staff. This means if you speak to someone at the car park or supermarket, they may have no knowledge of JustPark bookings or the arrangement at all. That's normal — it doesn't mean your booking isn't valid. Your booking confirmation is your proof.
🅿️ Types of parking on JustPark
JustPark lists several different types of parking space. Knowing which type you've booked tells you what to expect when you arrive.
| Type | How it works on arrival | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| ANPR car park | Cameras read your plate automatically. No ticket, no barrier, no display needed — just drive in. | Supermarkets, some hotels, NCP |
| Barrier car park | Barrier may open automatically on entry, or you may need an access code or intercom. Check your booking confirmation for instructions. | Hotels, managed car parks |
| Private driveway / residential space | No barrier. Park up — your booking confirmation is your proof of permission. Owner's contact number is in your confirmation email. | Driveways, residential streets, private land |
| On-street / pay & display | Some council-managed on-street bays are bookable via JustPark. Your booking registers your VRM with the council enforcement system. | Council parking bays |
| Event parking | Venue-specific passes. Different cancellation rules apply. Staff at the venue may not be aware of JustPark — your pass is your proof. | Concerts, football, festivals, O2 |
| On demand / drive-up | No pre-booking required. Open the app when you arrive, start a session, and pay as you go. Your VRM is registered at the point you start the session. | Select ANPR car parks, some supermarkets |
🛒 Supermarkets (e.g. Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Waitrose)
JustPark has partnered with major supermarkets to let you park beyond the free period. Your booking is ANPR-enforced — no ticket, no barrier, no display needed. Park in any standard bay and your registration does the rest.

🏨 Hotels & managed car parks
Hotels and managed car parks are typically barrier or ANPR (camera) controlled. When you book via JustPark your registration is sent to the operator.
- Barrier car parks: the barrier may open automatically when you drive in, or you may need to use a code or intercom — check your booking confirmation for access instructions
- ANPR car parks: cameras read your plate on entry and exit — no ticket needed, just drive in
- Arriving early: you cannot enter before your booking start time at enforced car parks — doing so risks a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN)
- Height restrictions: always check the listing for height restrictions before booking if you're driving a van, MPV, or larger vehicle
🏠 Private driveways & residential spaces
Private spaces are listed by individual space owners. There's usually no barrier — you park up and your booking confirmation is your proof of permission.
- Access instructions and the space owner's contact number are in your booking confirmation email and in My Bookings
- If you can't find the space or there's a problem on arrival, contact the owner directly first

🎟️ Event parking
Event parking (concerts, football, festivals) works differently — passes are venue-specific and subject to different cancellation rules. See our Event Parking help page for full details including O2, NCP, and specific venue FAQs.
📱 On demand / drive-up parking
Some JustPark car parks support on-demand parking — no pre-booking needed. Look for the Park Now or Drive Up option on the listing.
- When you arrive, look for the JustPark location ID sign in the car park — enter that code in the app to start your session
- Your VRM is registered at the moment you start the session — cameras check it against live active sessions
- You can extend your session in the app while you're still parked
- If you forget to end your session, you'll be charged for the time the car park shows your vehicle present

Pre-booking locks in a space and a price in advance. Drive-up is pay-as-you-go — availability isn't guaranteed. If the car park is full when you arrive on a drive-up session, end your session immediately and you won't be charged.
JustPark only sells a portion of a car park's total spaces — the operator decides how many to make available through us. If we've sold our allocation, the listing shows as full even if the car park itself still has spaces. If this happens, you may be able to pay directly with the car park operator on arrival.
⏱️ Extending your booking
Running late or need more time? Open My Bookings in the app and tap Extend Session before your booking ends. Not all car parks allow extensions — if the option isn't there, the car park doesn't permit it. In that case, make a new booking for the additional time needed.
